According to the Wrestling Observer (Click here to subscribe!), the WWE is thinking about two big changes to the Slammy Awards after recent complaints. Many fans were upset that a lot of the big stars didn't show up to claim their awards.
The proposed changes the WWE is thinking of are:
1) Put the Slammy Awards on WrestleMania week. This will have a majority of the stars to be already in attendance and will allow fans to actually see the winners receive their awards in person. This is already a super-busy week and it is likely that this won't happen.
2) The second idea is to tally the voting a week in advance for the awards. This will allow the WWE to reach the winners prior and get them to attend the show. This would also allow for them if stars like the Rock are filming a movie, to send a film crew to his movie set. This way we could at least see him accept the award rather than someone accepting for him
I think idea 2 makes the most sense. There is no real advantage for the WWE to do live voting until the day of the event. Tally the votes a week ahead and than contact all the big names who won and try to get them in attendance. Imagine this years show if we just got to see Brock Lesnar, Undertaker, the Rock or other big names accept their awards in person? Would have been much better in my opinion!
