With the success of the most recent NXT Takeover special in London, it had me thinking about where they could go next.... I would like to preface this article by saying I am Canadian and as a result am biased, but I think it could be very successful.
The last PPV that has been in Canada was Breaking Point in 2009 I believe. Canada has a massive wrestling fan base and I think it's a shame that we haven't gotten a major show since then (I also understand that many other international cities deserve a show too).
The key selling point for Canada hosting an NXT Takeover event would be the current (and former) NXT talent that are Canadian. Sami Zayn is currently one of the biggest names on the NXT roster and is from Canada. Zayn is a main event draw in NXT and has the potential to headline any of their shows, regardless of the location. Imagine a main event of NXT Takeover: Montreal featuring Sami Zayn taking on Kevin Owens. This would be a phenomenal as two guys with such a storied pasts together face off again in their home city where they both began. The story writes itself. I know Owens is a main roster star and Zayn could be soon to join him, but I think both of those guys would want this match 100%. The best part of that match for NXT, is that their main event wouldn't even need to feature the NXT title. It obviously could if NXT chose to go that direction but I think Owens vs Zayn in Montreal is a pretty great selling point for wrestling fans.
I think we can also assume that many other Canadian WWE/NXT stars would love to get involved in the show whether it be a match or an appearance. Tyson Kidd, Natalya, Tyler Breeze and Tye Dillinger off the top of my head as potential wrestlers, maybe even Chris Jericho gets involved... And think about all the potential appearances they could book with former Canadian stars: Bret Hart, Edge, Christian, Trish Stratus, Lance Storm ect...
Keeping Canadian talent out of the equation, I think the fans themselves would bring a ton of passion and excitement to an NXT show. Canada has always been a great market for the WWE and wrestling in general so no doubt the show would sell out.
Also, unlike NXT Takeover London, there wouldn't be any time difference for this "International" show, allowing fans to watch at their regular scheduled time.
Like I said before, I am Canadian and incredibly biased but after seeing the success and atmosphere at NXT Takeover: London, it had me thinking about how incredible a show in Canada would be.
