The Current State of The Divas Division
In July of 2015, Stephanie McMahon and the WWE welcomed three out of the four horsewomen from NXT. Charlotte, Becky Lynch, and Sasha Banks all made their debuts at the same time during a segment involving the Bella Twins and Paige. During this segment we found out that they were building factions to what it seems like to take down the brand to beat and that was the Bellas.
One of the teams/factions consisted of three women from NXT: Paige, Becky Lynch, and Charlotte. With this team they each brought something different to the table with Paige being an English born wrestler with a more edgy moveset and a wicked submission known as the PTO (Paige Tapout). Becky Lynch being an Irish born wrestler she is one of my favorites and I feel she is being misused and hasn’t gotten her dues. I just love to see her wrestle and has a submission known as the disarmer. Lastly is Charlotte the daughter of the two time hall of famer the nature boy Ric Flair. When the WWE Universe was thinking of the next NXT Diva to get the call up everyone expected it to be Charlotte. Even with all the factions put together they still focused on Charlotte and her big push came to fruition with her beating Nikki Bella for the Divas Championship and ending her historic reign as champ. The problem that I have with Charlotte now that she is on the main roster is that they keep comparing her to her father and she needs to be her own person without constantly walking in her fathers shadow.
The other team/faction in the divas division right now is team BAD and I feel that team BAD was just formed to round out the divas and they ended up getting lost in the shuffle as the WWE focused more on the storylines of team PCB vs Team Bella and the implosion of team PCB. Team BAD consists of Naomi, Tamina, and the boss Sasha Banks. When Sasha Banks made her debut she was the current NXT Women’s Champion and in my opinion I felt that she should have brought her title out with her to the ring. I expect big things in the future for team BAD.
The current state of the divas division right now is that Nikki Bella is injured and probably won’t be back in the ring till months from now PCB has imploded since Charlotte has won the divas championship. After beating Paige to hold on to her divas title twice already it seems as if their heading in the direction of Charlotte vs Becky for the divas title and I could see this storyline actually going somewhere and being a great storyline. Also 2016 will be the year of Sasha Banks as she has been poorly misused on the main roster and every time there is a divas match whether she’s at ringside or not out there at all the WWE Universe chants WE WANT SASHA!!!
If I was on the creative team I would have Sasha Banks win the title at WrestleMania and have her bring back the Women’s Championship.
