What a night Payback turned out to be. One of my favourite matches was the 2/3 falls match for the Tag Team Championship. The rivalry that Tyson Kidd/ Cesaro and the New Day have had over the past few weeks has been some of the best parts of WWE television. The rise of the New Day from jokes of the company to the funniest and most unique team has been a hell of a story. The two teams put on another fantastic show, with the New Day's Xavier Woods stealing the win when the ref was not looking and he wasn't suppose to be involved in the match. This was a great way to keep this feud going over the next couple weeks leading into Elimination Chamber. They also finally announced that the Tag Team belts will be defended in an Elimination Chamber match in 2 weeks. This should really help the tag team division to maintain steam and add some other teams into the mix.
Neville vs. King Barrett was a screwy finish as I suggested in my predictions. Neville won by count out and Barrett came back and attacked Neville. This sets up both of these guys for the Elimination Chamber Intercontinental Championship match where they will both certainly be in. What looked concerning though was Neville's knee as he was noticeably in pain throughout the end of the match. Was this Neville being a master seller? Or could this be a serious injury? Lets hope this was not serious because Neville has some serious momentum going right now.
The 'I Quit' match between John Cena and Rusev was another screwy one. First Rusev said 'I quit' into the mic at the very beginning when he asked Cena if he wanted to just say 'I Quit' and be done with it. Next, Cena was knocked unconscious during the middle of the match and it looked like he was knocked out. In an 'I Quit' match the loser has to say the words so he was able to continue, but it seems odd that he can go from being knocked out cold to back into the match. Lastly it is being reported that Rusev actually said 'I Quit' or something close when he was speaking Bulgarian into the mic. Lana came in and told the ref that Rusev quits, so in the eyes of the casual fans it makes Rusev look strong still. Overall it was a strange match but it was entertaining.
The Fatal-Fourway match was the highlight of the night for me. The Shield reunited for a split moment and had me marking out like crazy! When they did the triple powerbomb and Seth put his fist out for the boys to reunite, I thought for a moment they were in on it the whole time. The moment was short lived and the match continued. Seth Rollins ended up winning using Triple H's finisher, the Pedigree on Randy Orton.
Overall it was a great PPV event with some exciting matches. Happy to hopefully see some of the feuds be finished for good like Cena/Rusev and Sheamus/Ziggler. It had some highs and some lows but overall a great event and sets us up great for Elimination Chamber in 2 weeks. What did you think?
